Sign-up reminder for 1099-S Year-End Processing

Just a quick reminder that it's time to make plans for your year-end 1099-S filing. If you've used us before, you know Standard's 1099 YEP service is the best way to get your filing ready. If not, take a moment to consider the hassle and expense of preparing forms by hand or hiring an outside service to do it.

Standard Solutions' 1099-S Year-end Processing Service:

Standard's Year-end Processing (YEP) Service will prepare an accurate 1099-S electronic filing for your firm that meets all IRS requirements, ready for uploading at the IRS Web site. Our preliminary reports let you make sure no data is missing, helping you avoid errors and ensure a timely filing.

Because we work with the data that's already in your Standard Conveyancer program, we can offer great savings over the costs of labor-intensive manual processes.

Remember, the early sign-up discount deadline is November 30th!

There's more about our Year-end Processing Service on our Web site. If you already know the details, go directly to the fee, deadline, and early sign-up discount page to sign up for this year.

A follow-up on the "Ransomware" threat

Our last message covered the increasing threat posed by ransomware viruses such as Cryptolocker. It should be stressed that if one of these viruses encrypts your data, you won't be able to get your data back. The only way to recover from this is to restore from a backup.

Most firms do backups of some sort, but on multiple occasions we've seen firms experience problems trying to recover from data loss. Problems range from backup programs not working correctly to users not being able to retrieve their backups when needed. Earlier this year we wrote an article for the New England Real Estate Journal covering problems we have seen with backup and recovery and what to do about them: Data backup and recovery for title agents - Traps for the unwary.

Please call our support department if you have any questions about backing up your Standard Conveyancer or Quicken data.

Standard QuickTip:

Entering tax info

The Annual Tax field on the Financial screen does not "control" the monthly real estate tax escrow amount on the HUD-1 Page 2, and vice versa.

The Annual Tax field is used for Page 1 tax proration and title insurance schedules. The program will fill 1/12 of the figure into line 1004, but you can change line 1004 if the escrow is based on a future tax amount that is higher.

If you change line 1004, it will not change or update the Annual Tax field on the Financial screen.
