ALTA 2006 Forms and Program Updates
Much has changed since our
last QuickNote on this topic. (We have been updating our
ALTA
2006 News Blog with new information as it comes in.) Most
importantly, Freddie
Mac has postponed the deadline for use of the new forms
to January 1, 2008. From what we've heard, it appears
the underwriters are developing new plans to roll out the 2006
jackets and forms in the coming months.
ALTA
has acknowledged that the delay in developing new forms means
that the
old policies can and will continue to be used for the time
being. Every underwriter that we have spoken with or seen memos
from say that agents can and should continue to use the 1992
forms with the 1992 jackets until the new forms and jackets
are available.
Status
on the New Forms Packages:
Most
of the underwriter state forms packages have only recently been
sent to us and are being worked on now. Those that we received
early enough to meet the old deadline (United General and First
American) are finished and available now.
The
new First American forms should only be used if you are using
First American's on-line "E-Jacket" system to generate
ALTA 2006 jackets. They should not be used if you are using
the 1992 paper policy jackets.
Distribution
of the new United General forms is on hold until the 2006 policy
jackets are distributed to agents.
Please
keep in mind that when you ask us to install a new policy forms
package, the new forms will REPLACE your current ones.
As long as you are still using the 1992 jackets you should
continue to use the forms you already have in your Standard
Conveyancer system.
Please
check our ALTA
2006 News Blog for news of additional packages becoming
available. Remember, however, that you should not be using
new forms until you receive new policy jackets from your
underwriter.
Installation
of the New Forms/Program Requirements:
Please
call or e-mail us
if you are using the First American E-Jacket system to generate
ALTA 2006 jackets and you need the new forms.
As
has been the case for some time now, all current program updates
require that you have Standard Conveyancer version 10.20
or higher. Click Help, then About, then About
Standard Conveyancer to determine your current version.
All
client offices received our version 10.20 update on CD-ROM by
last September at the latest. If your office has not yet installed
the update please contact us immediately.
If
your office is still merging documents with WordPerfect 5.1,
please contact us as soon as possible to schedule your MS Word
upgrade.
First
American Massachusetts — Rate Change
First
American agents have been notified of a rate change to the Eagle
Loan Policy effective June 17, 2007. Simple rate changes like
these do not require a program update from us -- you have control
over your own rate charts and can easily update this yourself.
Simple
instructions on updating title insurance rates are posted in
the Help
& Support section of our Web site. Please call if you
have any questions.
