At Standard
Solutions we take pride in our ability to deliver quality, timely service.
We understand the time-sensitivity of your business and our expectation
is to be able to respond to your needs as quickly as possible. We can
do this because we maintain a system that allows us to remotely access
your site to provide assistance, update your program and deliver other
needed services.
When your
firm started working with Standard Conveyancer, we helped you set up
your remote control software and service connection through your Internet
service. It is critical that this remote service capability be maintained.
If we cannot connect to your office, our ability to resolve your issues
may be severely diminished.
What
kind of events can cause problems with your remote connection capability,
and what do you need to do?
1. Replacing
or upgrading your workstation with a new operating system may require
a newer version of pcAnywhere.
2. Replacing
DSL or cable modem hardware, changing your Internet service provider,
or moving to a new office will require reconfiguration of the settings
that allow remote connection.
3. Intermittent
changes by your Internet service provider of the IP address assigned
to you may also require reconfiguration of your remote connection settings.
Most of
our clients still rely on pcAnywhere for remote service with Standard
Solutions. While alternatives are available, we have found that in most
cases this is still the most reliable and easy to use option. Some clients
have set up accounts with Web-based services such as GoToMyPC.com. These
services require maintaining monthly subscriptions and have certain
limitations. Windows Remote Desktop, included with Windows XP, appears
to have reliability issues and has limitations that affect file transfers.
Its screen-blanking feature makes it inappropriate for remote training.
The shareware and freeware solutions currently available have even more
limitations.
Whatever
method you are currently using with us, it is vitally important that
your remote connection capability be maintained. It should be tested
periodically if it is not being used regularly, especially before you
install a major update from us. All Standard Conveyancer users should
learn how to use the software that lets us connect.
If you
are planning to upgrade your computers or your Internet setup, you should
have a migration plan in place. Many software functions, not just remote
connectivity, can be interrupted by these kinds of changes, and that's
exactly when you might need service from us.
