Our
experience has shown that on many computers, Norton Antivirus
software can drastically slow operations. This may be especially
noticable during heavy network usage, such as during document
merges using Microsoft Word.
There
are several approaches to solving this problem. One is to switch
to a different anti-virus software. Another approach is to configure
your installation of Norton Antivirus not to automatically check
Microsoft Word documents, and/or to disable the Norton Antivirus
auto-protect feature when using Standard Conveyancer or Standard
HUD & Title (this does not disable e-mail scanning).
Microsoft's
Web site provides information and instructions on disabling
the Norton AV "Office plug-in" that performs a virus
scan each time you open a Word document. We have found this removes
a very significant drag on the document merge performance on machines
we have tested.
Symantec's
Web site provides information on excluding
certain folders (such as your Standard Conveyance "SC"
folder) from virus scanning.
