Some
of our clients have complained that Microsoft Windows XP
runs very slowly on their computers, slowing down applications
such as Standard Conveyancer and Standard HUD & Title.
Our investigation has revealed that many of the visual effects
incorporated into Windows XP, such as delays, fading and
scrolling, can drastically slow the operation of the computer.
There
may be other reason why your computer may run slow, such
as networking issues or overly
aggressive anti-virus software.
To try speeding up your system, however, turn off the visual
effects by following these steps:
1.
Right click your "My Computer" icon, then click
"Properties." The System Properties panel will
open. (You can also access the System Properties through
the Control Panel.)
2.
On the System Properties panel, click the "Advanced"
tab.
3.
In the Performance section, click the "Settings"
button.
4.
On the Visual Effects tab, choose "Adjust for best
performance."
5.
Click "Apply," then "OK."
You
should notice a change in the appearance and speed of your
program windows and menus. One thing you may notice is that
your system will look more like Windows 2000 than before.
If you wish to restore the Windows XP look, follow these
steps:
1.
Right click on your Windows desktop, then click "Properties."
2.
On the Display Properties panel, click the "Appearance"
tab.
3.
For the "Windows and buttons" setting, choose
"Windows XP style." (You can choose a "Color
scheme" as well if you wish, but we recommend you
do not change the "Font size" setting.)
4.
Click "Apply," then "OK."
